An evening in Nanluoguxiang (南锣鼓巷), Beijing, June 2008 : Photos from some walks around the latest trendy area in Beijing(北京), Nanluoguxiang （南锣鼓巷）. Nanluoguxiang is not far from Houhai(后海), but is more low-key. There are a lot of interesting restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and shops there. It is well worth an evening. My favorite places to eat there are Shaorouren (barbecue person, 烧肉人) and a Korean restaurant Saveurs de Coree. There are a lot of other interesting looking places there but I haven't had a chance to try them. Nanluoguxiang at night (南锣鼓巷夜景), Beijing (北京), June 2007 : Nanluoguxiang is not far from Houhai(后海), but is more low-key. There are a lot of interesting restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and shops there. It is well worth an evening. Nanluoguxiang around twilight (南锣鼓巷傍晚), June 2007 : I separated out some photos taken before sunset that were in my originally rather large gallery of Nanluoguxiang photos from 2007 and put them into this new gallery, since they have a pretty different feel from the night photos that I left in that gallery. I retitled that gallery to clarify that it is intended to be night photos. So none of these photos are new, just moved over from an existing gallery. Hutong (胡同) scenes near Houhai, Beijing, (北京后海)，December 2006 : Some hutongs (胡同) in the area close to Houhai (后海). This is a relatively well-preserved hutong neighborhood that seems to be in the process of 'gentrifying': wealthy people are acquiring existing residences one by one and renovating them. I am very grateful to my friend Cynthia for taking the time to show me around the labyrinthine lanes of the hutong and keeping me from becoming completely lost. There are also some pictures taken on Jiu Gu Lou Da Jie (久鼓楼大街) on the way to Houhai from the nearest subway stop, which is, appropriately enough, Gu Lou Da Jie (鼓楼大街) station.
